Plumbing Work is Finished

All the plumbing work is officially finished now. Sewage and water supply to the old bathroom are disconnected, the water pipes underneath the sink are replaced and repositioned, we also got a new main shut off valve in the basement and a water hammer arrester. Plumbing Chapter closed.

Finishing Plumbing Touches

Ed's roofing guy wasn't available today so no vent yet. They came by just to do some finishing touches like putting in a copper pipe for the kitchen drain, mounting an outdoor faucet and correcting a little mistake in the upstairs bathroom. The piping underneath the kitchen sink still needs to be moved to the back to free up some space and that's pretty much it, except for the vent. I sanded, primed and painted the Mini Bathroom and it's ready for the medicine cabinet and lighting fixtures. I wanted to install the ceiling light but the mounting bracket is too short (or the box in the ceiling too large)Those are these little things...

Plumbers are Back

The plumbers are back. Oldies are playing and the fan is blowing. I am glad when this is over. Two more days? Or more? I like Ed and Kevin and that would be my advice: If you do a huge plumbing job definitely hire people that you feel comfortable having around because they will pretty much take the place over.

Plumbing Work has come to an end

Ed is cleaning up..., the water is set up. Now we are ready for inspection. After that it's finishing work.

Where were the Plumbers?

No plumbers today. No inspection. Not according to plan. The kitchen still covered with pipes, plugs, tools, buckets, wind machine, stereo, ladders, bags...Maybe tomorrow?

More Plumbing -water pipes.

It takes longer than they thought to run all the water pipes...,it looks good though and they'll come back tomorrow, finish up and have it all inspected, or at least that's the plan.

Cost of Plumbing Materials

I am still a little bit in shock about the cost of the new plumbing. Or perhaps I just thought that Ed would credit us more than 400 for the redo. Once we had agreed to lower the kitchen ceiling they went right ahead running all the vent and sewage pipes...but there is a beam and once they were further along we were told that the ceiling would drop below 8 feet. Didn't we make it clear from the start that the ceiling cannot be lower than 8 feet? I am almost sure we did, but not 100%..., so no grounds for a serious complaint. Well, on the other hand we got everything done, even stuff we didn't know we needed such as a vent pipe for the kitchen sink. I wonder about the cost of materials. So far 2000. Doesn't that seem just a bit high?

Plumbing for Bathrooms -ready for inspection

Today the plumbers came by only briefly to test all the vent pipes and after they left I got busy installing the shower enclosure so it will be ready for the big day tomorrow when the water pipes will be put in...
The mini bathroom in the kitchen is ready as well -the significant partition wall is up.

New Plumbing

I always thought that plumbing was about water supply, well it is, but most of the work when re-plumbing a new bathroom goes into the vent pipes. The water pipes are a piece of cake so I hear. It has been two weeks now. The vents are done and I suspect that it is going to take at least three more days. I can't even imagine anymore what the bill will be. 65 an hour for one guy and 125 for two. In an old house you just don't know what your are getting yourself into and plumbing becomes an art form. I like our plumbers Ed and Kevin...and if your are in the Newport/Tiverton area I highly recommend them...

Plumbing Redo

At this point I have stopped following all the vent pipes. All I know is that most of them had to be redone because we would have lost too much ceiling height. The kitchen has turned into a complete mess since Mo when they had to cut more of the ceiling out. I spent the last two days restoring windows in the dining room.

Plumbing for new Bathrooms

Plumbers Ed and Kevin were rolling full steam today. Things went much slower yesterday -I think one guy (whose name I don't remember) had a bit of a post 4th of July hangover. Since the new bathroom location is over the kitchen the pipes are running there. We will put a new ceiling in that will be just 8 feet. The plumbers have started last Monday and we are very happy with their work. It looks like we are not going over the $6,500 right now. According to code every drain needs a venting pipe. Those are all done (including the kitchen sink) and so are the sewage pipes. Next will be the water pipes.
